WD Purple® hard drives sold in the USA will go through a model number and drive label change only, starting this month.  From this point forward, the new model numbers and updated label will differentiate WD Purple drives purchased in the USA so customers can ensure they are ordering the latest, full-featured WD Purple drives with a WD-backed, 3-year warranty for returns in the USA.

The current (“PURX”) and new (“PURZ”) WD Purple models already include enhancements such as:

  1. Support for up to 180 TB/yr annualized workload rate
  2. Support for up to 64 cameras per drive
  3. Support for systems with more than 8 drive bays (4TB and higher)
  4. Tarnish-resistant electronic components (4TB and higher)

The new models should not require re-qualification or testing, because the change in model number and label is only a marketing change – the drives do not change in form, fit or function.
